Privacy policy

This policy explains how VIII — The Eighth Day handles information in the iPhone app and on this website.

Use VIII without an account

Your prayers, schedules, groups, prayer history, and chosen photos are stored on your device. An account is optional. Without an account, VIII does not upload this content to our cloud service. Your device and Apple backup settings may affect whether local app data is included in your device backups.

Optional account and sync

If you create or sign in to an account, we process your email address and account identifier to authenticate you. VIII syncs your prayer titles and words, dedications and names you enter, groups, schedules, reading preferences, selected photos, and prayer completion dates to your account. Prayer content may include religious beliefs or other sensitive personal information you choose to write. We use this information to provide the app and restore your synced content across devices, not for advertising.

Services that help us operate VIII

Supabase provides authentication, database storage, and private photo storage. Our project is hosted in the United States. Resend delivers sign-in emails and processes your email address and delivery information. This website is published with OpenAI Sites and served through Cloudflare. Cloudflare routes support emails to our support inbox; our email provider processes messages so we can respond. These services may process IP addresses and request information to serve and protect the site. These providers process information needed to deliver their services.

Permissions and notifications

You choose whether to enable prayer reminders. Reminders are scheduled locally on your device. The system photo picker gives VIII access to photos you select; the app does not request your whole photo library. A selected photo is uploaded only when you use account sync. Lock Screen widgets can display a prayer title, dedication, and time, so consider what you want visible there.

No advertising or tracking

VIII has no advertising, cross-app tracking, or third-party analytics SDK. We do not sell your personal information. Prayer activity is stored to show your own history. Hosting, authentication, and email providers may retain operational logs for security and reliability.

Retention and deletion

Cloud content is retained while your account exists. In VIII, open You → Account → Delete account to permanently delete your account and its cloud prayers, photos, and history. After the server confirms deletion, VIII also removes the copies and migration archives on that iPhone. Other offline devices may still hold local copies; remove those copies on those devices. Provider backup copies, if any, expire under the providers’ retention schedules. You can also contact us for privacy requests.

Security and your choices

Connections to our services use encrypted transport. Cloud access is restricted to your authenticated account, and sign-in sessions are stored in the iPhone Keychain. This is not end-to-end encryption. You can use VIII without an account, choose what you enter, disable notifications in iOS Settings, sign out to pause sync, or delete your account. Only changes that finish syncing can be restored from the cloud.

Families

VIII includes prayers that adults can use with children. It is not a social network or a service designed to collect information directly from children under 13. Please avoid entering unnecessary identifying information about children or other people.
